Finally, the MLB Network has arrived

Finally, the day has come. For about as long as I could remember, I’ve always wondered what it’d be like to have a TV channel dedicated solely to baseball, a sport that I could watch 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Today, the MLB Network officially launches, and there is no one more stoked than I am. OK, maybe I’m embellishing a bit, but you get the point.

Instead of watching re-runs of Fresh Prince of Bell Air at 1 a.m. while writing for CardboardIcons.com or TheBaseballStars.com, I can sit here and re-watch highlights from the games of the day, watch contests that were played decades ago and largely have been withheld from public consumption due to strict copyright laws, or simply just marvel at theme shows highlighting Herculean efforts from our favorite players of all time.

I’ve dreamed of this day for several years. Finally this dream of mine has been fulfilled.

The Championship: Week Two, the beginning of the end.

The Jon has likened Newspaperman and FreeSanJose, the two combatants in the World Series of the State League, to Daniel LaRusso and Mike Barnes of the Karate Kid III. Much of the first week was back and forth, and for four days, Newspaperman (Larusso) had control. Then FSJ came storming back.

And now it all comes down to this. Sudden death. Continue reading

Four Bagger: Winners and Losers, which one will I be?

“No Gimmicks Needed” finally posted a victory in the TBS/State League, and the team picked up a couple of coveted young hurlers in the process. But such was not the case in the SLO League where another beatdown sends my squad back to the cellar. Read more in this week’s FOUR BAGGER.

Four Bagger: NPM defeats The Jon … again

Justin Verlander may have cost me my first victory in the TBS League, but nothing can ruin this moment. Newspaperman has defeated TheJon … in the minor league setting that is the SLO League … in a regular season match up, no less … but I have has done it for the third straight time. Now if only I can take down TheJon in the TBS league. I have not beat him there since Aug. 6, 2006. Read about this week’s victory and other happenings in the Four Bagger.

Hey Newspaperman …

Now you gotta realize, Newspaperman stole Francisco Liriano from The Jon in our draft.
Liriano was The Jon’s rookie keeper two seasons ago and The Jon held Liriano on his bench all of last season just for the chance at having the pitcher with the best slider in years to play for The Greatness. But alas, all good things must end, and The Jon dropped Liriano last season to keep Fausto Carmona thinking Liriano would be available in the second to third round of our redraft. So what does Newspaperman do? Continue reading

The Michael Jordan of fantasy baseball …

Move aside Mike, Newspaperman is about to join you in three-peat land. Just when things looked like I was going to enter the season with Travis Hafner and Carlos Zambrano as two of my five keepers in one league, I got a surprising offer this morning from someone looking to dump Carlos Lee and C.C. Sabathia. Continue reading
