Lee or Volquez?

Video courtesy of TomtheRipper407

javatarThere is one person The Jon loathes.
He is an egotistical, self-righteous blowhard and he doesn’t listen to anything but his own voice. But still, you put FreeSanJose and The Jon together and it’s gold. So c’mon FreeSanJose, arguing with The Jon will make you famous and it is time to get down to business.

Look, The Jon always seems to have all the answers, and for the most part it is true. But there are times The Jon questions himself to the point where he rocks back and forth in a four cornered room staring at candles.

Now is one of those times. The Jon can’t decide between keeping Cliff Lee or Edison Volquez. Continue reading

The Dead Thread

There are plenty of reasons why The Jon hates Grady Sizemore. And it has more to do than just these lovefest videos on youtube and Newspaperman commenting on it such as this gem:

i’m not an indians fan but this guy is the HOTTEST BASEBALLER today, honestly.

The Jon came to the realization that Sizemore has been vastly overvalued when pulling off the second best fantasy baseball trade of all time last week. The Jon will never bother trying to draft, trade or have Sizemore on The Greatness’ team. This mantra came to fruition when Newspaperman was crying over how he wanted Santana and the first player The Jon thought of on his team was Sizemore and then quickly realized he wasn’t worth it … you know the guy Newspaperman once commented on youtube:

mmhmmmmm

On that rather ominous note, TheBaseballStars present the dead thread. Continue reading

The Jon knows these things to be true: Week 11

Look, Johan Santana was the man with the Twins. He put up one of the best seasons this side of the-turn-of-the-century Randy Johnson. In 2004 he was 20-6 with a 2.61 ERA to go along with 265 strikeouts. As the anchor of the Jon’s team, he led The Greatness to two titles and six seasons where The Jon didn’t finish any lower than third.

So it is with great sadness and an unabashed outlook on the future that The Jon brings this news: The Jon just traded Johan Santana. Continue reading

Pitcher’s duel

It started off sweetly enough. The Oz e-mailed The Jon saying how much he respected The Jon and wished he could be like The Greatness … but it quickly turned ugly.

One bitter fantasy player with only one title talking about his poor excuse for a pitching staff to the best Fantasy Baseballer of all time … Like The Oz could ever be the champ that The Jon is with his sorry excuse he calls pitching.

Come to think of it, The Oz has always been a Magnum T.A. to The Jon’s Ric Flair. And so has his pitching staff.

Read on and judge for yourself … Continue reading

The Jon knows these things to be true: Week 10

This doesn’t come easy. Newspaperman tried this week to emulate The Greatness known as The Jon, and his result was less than astronomical. He was writing something about Chase Utley, took some obscure lyric that didn’t even match and posted a Geto Boys video. Newspaperman. Son. Stick to David Wright and Grady Sizemore. Leave the videos to The Jon.

So why the Summertime video? Have you seen the baseball scores this week? Offense is running wild, dun. Temperature’s rising. It’s summer.

Summer brings crazy offensive numbers. Plus Will Smith is having a new movie coming out called Hancock …

You see that Newspaperman?

Will Smith, Hancock, Movie, Scarface, Al Pacino, white women dancing.

Those are tags son.

That drives up traffic to our site. When was the last time the Geto Boys have been in the news?

Let’s talk baseball, shall we? Continue reading

The Jon knows these things to be true: Week 6

As journalists, we are trained to write a certain way. We have to be factual. We have to have a developed argument. We have to follow certain rules. The act of writing itself comes with its guidelines too. If you want to write a book, it has to be done a certain way, or like a certain author.

The Jon tries to forget all of that when The Jon gets on this site.

Communication is changing. Writing is changing. The days of newspapers being the main source of information is long gone. That is one of the reasons why we started this site. Sports is changing.

We are still fans of our respective teams, but now it is more important that we follow our own individual players for our fantasy teams.

The Jon is huge Yankees fan. I only have Jorge Posada and Phil Hughes on The Jon’s team. Newspaperman fawns over the Red Sox. He does not have one Red Sox on his team.

Hence the video … and for personal reason that we will get to in a very short version of this week’s segment. Let’s get started … Click on this Continue reading

The Oz vs. The Jon — it’s going to be a long week

I looked at a pitching matchup between two starters as what would set the tone of my matchup this weekend with The Jon. It was his top starter Johan Santana vs. Ian Snell, one of my lower guys (3-4-5 are all about the same for me at this point). I figured if Snell and the Pirates could pull out a win against Johan, that would set a nice pace for me.

As the more astute among you know, that showdown was scheduled for Monday — but got postponed because all of New York stops when A-Rod hurts his leg. Or something like that. I’m not really sure. So a day late, we got Johan vs. Ian, and the subtext of The Oz vs. The Jon.

More on that in a second, but first, a musical break with another Santana:

The Jon knows these things to be true: Week 4

Injuries. That is what Week 4 is all about. Newspaperman and FreeSanJose actually tried to step to The Jon and point and scream about scoreboard? Injure The Jon?
Well, FreeSanJose didn’t, that’s because he can express it on a different level and doesn’t wear a polka dot dress like Newspaperman does. Fantasy baseball is devoid of perspective. It is all about how your team did the past week for the novice fantasy baseballer.

Take a look at FreeSanJose and Newspaperman. Novices they are not, but they love the scoreboard. When they have won championships, they have always been the top dog in the standings. They have not suffered or came into the playoffs as one of the lower seeds only to win it all … twice.

The Jon has. Perseverance, fools. And as for dogs, go ahead and kick The Jon while he is down. Let’s get going and move ahead to Chipper Jones … Continue reading

The Jon knows these things to be true: Week 2

Should The Jon’s Panzer Dragoon edit have his finisher as the Fish Stretch Sleeper or the Super Rana? This is what the Jon could be deciding right now instead of serving The Jon’s loyal readers with another edition of “The Jon knows these things to be true.” It is probably a good thing The Jon isn’t playing Fire Pro Wrestling returns. When The Jon gets anal retentive about finishers in video games, it isn’t a good thing.

PoiDog knows of this. The Jon has called PoiDog many a time during WWF No Mercy’s heyday for the N64. “Hey PoiDog. Do you think my Cools edit would be better off with a Forward Front Russian Leg Sweep?”

The Jon’s a loser. let’s talk fantasy baseball: Week 2. Shall we? Continue reading

Which BaseballStar are you?

So to get a better understanding of how TheBaseballStars differ, lets play a little game shall we? The fun begins with pitching, or which type of pitchers each individual BaseballStar goes for when creating a team. It is a vision of what the perfect pitcher is so to speak.
The game is figuring out which BaseballStar you are most alike in terms of which pitcher you go for when selecting your team.

The Jon fully expects you to read this post and spend one second saying you are like The Jon, Newspaperman (heaven forbid), PoiDog (you sheep), FreeSanJose (get anger management classes), or The Oz (MIA). So why the Roy Halladay video? The Jon thought you would never ask … Continue reading
