Draft Results: No Gimmicks Needed

Two weeks before the season started, TheBaseballStars held its annual draft for the “State” league. It’s a 7×7, 10-team, head-to-head keeper league where owners keep five players and a prospect. All five of ‘Stars are in this league. Below is the analysis and results of team “No Gimmicks Needed.” In case you’re wondering, the team is in fact named after Chris Candido (pictured here) whom I felt had one of the coolest monikers ever. Four Bagger: Dog Days of Summer

The summer is supposed to be the time of year where baseball rules the roost. Unfortunately I’m spending too much time thinking about work, and fighting the internal urge to actually sign up for fantasy football. For the record, I wish I could just walk away from football all together. It’s just not that fun, really. But fact of the matter is that so many of my friends are involved in it that I can’t possibly quite it all together. Gah! Continue reading

Four Bagger: Oh, it hurts …

When I set out to publish this piece Tuesday morning, I had lots on my mind. The re-anointed fantasy savior Juan Pierre had hit the disabled list, Grady Sizemore was tied for the American League lead in homers, and I attempted to discuss my reasoning for NOT playing Todd Wellemeyer this week. Well, much has changed since then, so lets not waste anymore time. Continue reading

Four Bagger: Let there be light

I knew when I drafted my teams before the season that my squads would be competitive. It was only a matter of time before they would start performing like the stars that they are and lift me into the upper echelon of each of my leagues. Was it because of Clayton Kershaw or Jay Bruce? Nope. Read about this and more in this week’s Four Bagger.

In the midst of a magical weekend

It’s a holiday weekend, so it’d be pretty tough to screw this up. But this has been a magical weekend for me, and not just involving baseball. But for the sake of this blog, I’ll keep it to the game as we’ve got many things to cover and a few pictures to show off.

It all started on Friday when I headed to McAfee Coliseum in Oakland to watch the first of a three-game series featuring the Red Sox and A’s. When I bought the tickets in March, I told myself it didn’t matter who was pitching just as long as it wasn’t Tim Wakefield, who I’ve seen on four or five occasions already.

But what do you know. We walk in and see this …

Resisting Temptation: Benching Max Scherzer

When you’ve got an exciting rookie hurler who seemingly could become a dominant force in the fantasy game, you’re going to have temptation to insert him immediately into your lineup. So what do you do when you’re at the bottom of your league looking up at the teams with established pitching rotations? Continue reading

Season opening tidbits

In less than a weeks time I’ve gone from feeling on top of the fantasy world (in my little bubble anyway), to pretty much feeling like crap about my team, particularly in the TheBaseballStars League. On draft day I felt like I crafted a gem, a squad that would be a force to be reckoned with. Now I’m just struggling to get a full team on the field. Continue reading

Three-peat starts here (Draft Results)

The road to the three-peat has begun.

On Saturday three of TheBaseballStars got together for the SLO League draft. TheJon took part by Yahoo Instant Messenger while PoiDog and myself hung out with the other owners. I’m not going to run down every bit of the draft, it’s a bit complicated since it’s a keeper league. But I will share my results. Reminder: I entered the draft without a first-round pick, and with these keepers: Victor Martinez, Chase Utley, Carlos Lee, C.C. Sabathia and Justin Verlander; rookie keeper: Cameron Maybin. Here’s what my team looks like today … Continue reading
